Become an Eco-Rep

What is an Eco-Rep?fightthepower

He or she is a first-year student living within East Halls on the University Park Campus that encourages sustainable lifestyles. Eco-Reps encourage responsible energy usage in the fall and emphasize recycling and composting during the spring semester. Eco-Reps work together to design activities that are informative and fun that support campus-wide sustainability focused initiatives. 

Qualities of a Great Eco-Rep

  • Leader
  • Has an interest in learning how to live a sustainable lifestyle and encourage others to do so as well
  • Enthusiastic
  • Self motivated
  • Creative
  • Good communication skills
  • Has an ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Dependable
  • Honestrecycling challenge



Time Commitment

Eco-Reps work an average of 4 hours per week and attend weekly meetings.  Much work is done independently, on the Eco-Rep's own schedule.  Participation is expected at group events and all training opportunities.

The Eco-Rep Program is made possible by the collaborative efforts of the Housing, Residence Life, Penn State faculty, and the Campus Sustainability Office.

How to Apply

Send cover letter and resume to Lydia Vandenbergh.  In the cover letter, address the qualities you have to be a great Eco-Rep.

Application to the student Eco-Rep Program is open to all incoming first-year students at University Park. Selected students will be housed within East Halls. East Halls is currently the only location for Eco-Reps.

DEADLINE TO APPLY FOR THE 2011-2012 SCHOOL YEAR:

All application materials must be submitted by July 12, 2011
